For further information Tel: *** (Out of hours) Steve on ***, , Back in the late 1970s, the CEO of Fiat, Carlo de Benedetti, asked Giorgetto Giugiaro from the newly founded Italdesign to design a small car to replace the Fiat 126. The brief was very clear, it needed to be easy to build, the manufacturing costs had to be low, whilst being spacious and practical, just like the rival Renault 4. In 1981 the first Fiat Panda went on sale in the UK and Europe, and whilst initial sales in the UK were slow compared to the EU market, it wasnt long before us Brits took it to our hearts. Over 40 years later and having sold in excess of 7 Million units, in 2011 the current MK5 was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show. To sum up, everything you need in a small car and nothing that you dont. Bags of space for both occupants and luggage, cheap to run, reliable and not overly expensive to maintain. We love the little Panda, in all of its various shapes and sizes and have sold hundreds since it was first launched, interestingly enough, the year Llanfoist Car Sales first came to Abergavenny.
