Coupe-cabriolets are more popular than traditional fabric roof convertibles, and Volkswagen has joined this competitive sector with the introduction of the Eos. The Eos provides loads of style, usability and is a very desirable vehicle. The Volkswagen will face competition from mass market rivals and rivals from the premium sector as well.

The Eos represents a new venture on Volkswagen’s part and the company has deliberately distanced it from the Golf hatchback. There are mechanical and physical similarities between the cars, but it is a separate model line, and not a folding roof spin-off from the conventional car that is so often the norm of many rival brands.

The Volkswagen Eos does sport the prominent VW badge and grille, but in all fairness, the car has a lot to offer all on its own. The car provides exceptional stlyling that works well to disguise the elongated tail that houses the car’s folding roof mechanism. That Eos tends to lack character, especially in lower specification models.

The roof itself is well designed, using a five-piece mechanism. The roof takes up less space when folded and now includes a sunroof so that motorists may now enjoy fresh air and sunshine even with the top up. VW calls this design the CSC - coupe, sunroof cabriolet.

The rest of the Eos is fairly conventional and offers a wide variety of engine chooices. The Eos is also the only one in this class who offers the option of the DSG gearbox on certain models.
