The History of Audi
Audi Cars
Audi AG is a German manufacturer. The Horch company was founded in 1899 by August Horch. Eventually, Horch was kicked out of his own company and in court was denied legal rights to the use of his family name. August Horch established a new company and decided to use the Latin translation of his family name and named the new company ‘Audi’.
In 1932 Audi joined forces with Horch, DKW, and Wanderer to form ‘Auto Union’. The Auto Union factories were bombed and many of them were completely destroyed during World War II. After the war, the company relocated and resumed production.
In 1958 Daimler-Benz acquired the majority of the company and a year later in 1959 acquired the remaining shares. In 1964 Benz sold the company to Volkswagen.
Audi’s have constantly changed and evolved through the years laying the foundation for the modern and sophisticated Audis that are produced now. Audi enjoys a large sales volume in Europe and is well-known for their exceptional build quality. Popular models include the Audi TT, Q7, A3, A4, A6, A4 Cabriolet, A8, Audi AllRoad, the RS6, RS4, and the Audi TT Roadster.

In 1999 Audi offered the A3 in entry-model form with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, in sporty form with a 1.8 Turbo engine, and a powerful 1.9 TDI diesel variant. In 2003 the A3 was replaced in Europe but continues to be produced and sold elsewhere. Production of the A3 was from 1996 to the present.
