 Practicality 2.5/5
Daihatsu Copen
Daihatsu Copen
The Diahatsu Copen comes with a very reasonable asking price especially considering the Copen’s build quality and attractive exterior styling. The Daihatsu is priced very low when compared to its convertible competitors or other superminis.

The Copen is not very spacious and is only capable of seating two. The boot is small and with the top down boot space is minimized even further. The Daihatsu Copen was not designed for space or practicality.

The Daihatsu’s controls and displays are sturdy and functional. The instrumentation does not share the same quality of style that the exterior design boasts, but they are functional and seem durable enough. The only problem is the Copen’s stereo, the controls are too small.

The Copen is a relatively comfortable ride. Larger passengers will find the seats more uncomfortable and cabin space more limited. Average size passengers should be comfortable enough though.

Gaining access to the Copen’s seats is easy enough for average size passengers. The door aperture is wide and accommodating. Larger passengers will have a more difficult time gaining access to the Copen’s cabin. The boot latch is located in the Daihatsu’s centre console and is inconvenient and fiddly, but the boot aperture itself is adequate.

Parking the Copen is easy thanks to its light steering and small size. The only obstacle to parking the Copen is the limited rear view due to wide rear pillars.

 Life Style 3/5
Daihatsu Copen
Daihatsu Copen
The Copen provides a decent driving experience. The little Daihatsu is front-wheel drive, and although it was not designed to be a sports car it does provide a sporty ride. The Copen provides somewhat of a rough ride and even with responsive steering it can prove tiresome on longer journeys. Overall the ride is pleasant and enjoyable especially with the top down.

The Daihatsu Copen is not a good family car. It is too small and has limited boot space. The Copen only provides seating for two, and when the top is down boot space is even more limited. The Copen would make a fun second car though or even a practical and stylish commuter car.

The Copen would make a good first car for those who could afford it. It is reasonably priced for what is on offer. Its small size and fast steering makes it easy to navigate even on crowded city streets and parking lots. Limited rear visibility would be the only downside to owning a Copen for a first car.

The Daihatsu Copen was quite a surprise. Daihatsu is better known for producing micro 4X4s and bargain priced city cars. The Copen is produced in a somewhat limited quantity and the lack of availability only seems to increase the little car’s popularity.
