 Volkswagen Passat - Practicality 3.5/5
Volkswagen Passat
Volkswagen Passat
The Volkswagen Passat will be inexpensive to buy and run, especially if you opt for the diesel variant. Reasonable insurance, good fuel economy, and decent service charges will off set the fact that resale values will be disappointingly low.

The cabin is spacious and will provide sufficient space to all of the occupants, though the rear passengers will slightly less legroom. Even with a load of four adults, none but the tallest will have any complaints if, that is, they are sitting in the rear seats. The boot is large and is big enough for a days shopping or a few large items.

The Volkswagen Passat gauges are clear, concise, and of high quality. The buttons and knobs are of high quality too. The fascia is uncluttered and the controls are both functional and practical as they are clearly labeled. Adding to the functionality are steering wheel mounted audio controls. The gear shift is quick and responsive which is a welcomed change from the Volkswagens of the past.

The Passat’s passengers will be comfortable thanks to the combination of comfortable, yet slightly firm, seats and plenty of head and legroom. The car is a bit unresponsive and the car will tend to roll when cornering, but it will be smooth and quiet inside the cabin.

The front passengers will ease through the doors without much difficulty as the seats sit at the perfect height and the roofline is high. Access into the cabin is simple for rear seat occupants as well. The doors open wide to allow for unrestricted access. The lid to the boot is light and opens by remote release, but doesn’t seem to opens wide enough to offer unrestricted access.

Parking the Passat is easy, though being a saloon does mean it will be a bit difficult to judge distances and parking sensors may be necessary. When pulling into a parking space forwards, visibility is good and judging distances is slightly simpler.
