Volkswagen Sharan Car Reviews

The Volkswagen Sharan is a large MPV and is the result of a joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and Ford. The VW Sharan seats seven and offers all the practicality of rival brands. The car handles well and may appear somewhat plain, but it does all the basics extremely well and better than most other brands on the market.

Volkswagen Sharan Overview

Model Rating: 3
Seats seven adults comfortably
Sliding rear doors
Good drive
It's a people carrier
Cheapest petrol model lacks power
Expensive

The Sharan offers three rows of seats, a lofty driving position and, in the case of the diesel variants, excellent performance. The Sharan offers an all-round impressive package, and even with an enhanced exterior design it is still not the most radical design on the road, but the Sharan offers more than enough to stay competitive.

Background

The Volkswagen Sharan was first produced in 1995 at the AutoEuropa plant in Portugal alongside the Ford Galaxy.

The first generation of Sharan was being produced for a pretty long 15 years, from 1995 to 2010 and throughout those years not much was done to update the Sharan, it only really received 3 cosmetic facelifts. The facelifts are distinguishable by the titles: Mark 1/Phase 1(which ran from 1995 to 2000), Mark 1A/Phase 1.5 (which ran from 2000 to 2004) and the Mark 1B/Phase 1.75 (which ran from 2004 to 2010).

2010 saw the arrival of the second generation model of the Sharan. This model has changed quite drastically from the first generation model. It has completely new features such as sliding rear doors, its weight has been reduced, despite it being longer and wider than the previous Sharan, and it now has two 2.0 litre TDI diesel options.

This is not a first car. It is too large and too difficult for a novice driver to navigate through town but the Sharan is an excellent family vehicle which certainly serves its purpose.

Overview

The Sharan has not seen a great deal of change since it was first produced in 1995, however it has always been popular people carrier and will only get better with time.
