Toyota Avensis Overview
The current Avensis comes with a wide range of engine choices including three diesels and three petrol options. The diesels are the obvious choice if fuel economy is what you are after.
The Avensis delivers a comfortable cabin, a supple ride and good road manners. The Avensis can certainly hold its own with rival brands.
Background
The Toyota Avensis was originally put into production in 1997 to replace the Carina E. It has since been produced in three different generations.
The first generation Avensis was produced from 1997 to 2003 with an option of four engines of which it shared with its predecessor (the Carina E).
The second generation Avensis then ran from 2003 to 2008 and offered more in the way of driver involvement than the first generation model and it was received well in the UK. It was then replaced by the third generation model in 2008. The third generation model achieved a five star rating under the EuroNCAP safety ratings scheme.
Summary
The Avensis is a good, safe car that has become more exciting since it was introduced in 1997, but is still not exactly an inspiring drive. Whilst it can hold its own in its class, it is by no means the best.
