Saab 9-3 Overview
The most recent version of the Saab 9-3 is the second generation model which came with a choice of 5 different engines ranging from a 1.8 litre Ecotec straight 4 engine to a 2.8 litre Turbocharged V6. Depending on the engine, the fuel economy ranges from 26.0 mpg to 63.0 mpg.
The car offered buyers an alternative to the big German brands. The car is and reliable and has drawn many buyers to the Saab brand.
Background
The Saab 9-3 began its life in 1998 and was made to be the successor of the ‘New-Generation’ Saab 900 with a lot of changes. The original 9-3 was produced as a three or five door hatchback and as a two door convertible.
The second generation model arrived in 2002 and was only produced in saloon, estate or cabriolet form unlike its predecessor which was available as a hatchback. The second generation 9-3 also used a new 2.0 litre straight 4 engine which was developed by General Motors’ Ecotec.
The second generation 9-3 received an update in 2008, a facelift which Saab claimed to include over 2000 changes.
Summary
This 9-3 offers a good driving experience with finely tuned suspension, and serious horsepower. The car has much to offer, but is often out performed by rival brands.
