Renault Laguna Car Review
Renault Laguna

Renault's Laguna Sport Tourer has always appealed to buyers who desired a more stylish alternative. The Laguna was not focused on speed or performance, it was more focused on comfort, practicality and safety. For 2005 the car gained a new nose, more standard kit and improved handling. Renault's Laguna Sport Tourer is unique and can not be stereo-typed as just another box on wheels. The car boasts enough space to accommodate shopping bags, sports equipment, strollers, or other larger items. The car offers much in the way of practicality and versatility. The Laguna has managed to offer all of this and still maintain a very attractive exterior style. The Renault Laguna sloping rear glass and rounded tail make it an elegant alternative to conventional estate cars. The traditional mid-size car sector might have seen better days, but Renault's efforts to give the Laguna a lift has created a car worthy of praise. While the Renault Laguna new nose is not as appealing as the old one, the car's interior is full of pleasing trim and bold colour options. The car's handling is sharp, and the Laguna is very enjoyable to drive.

Renault Laguna
The costs of the Laguna will be reasonable. Low insurance rates and decent servicing charges will ensure that the Laguna continues to be an inexpensive car to operate. For good fuel economy the diesel variant is going to be your best bet.

Renault Laguna cabin space is decent, especially for front passengers who will enjoy the majority of the cabin’s space. Headroom is plentiful throughout the entire car, but rear occupants will suffer when in comes to legroom. The boot is large and is able to accommodate quite a bit of luggage.

The Laguna’s main instrumentation is easy to read provided there is sufficient lighting, as it is difficult to read when light is sparse. The climate control buttons and knobs seem to be of low quality and are hard to operate.

Front passengers will be comfortable, even on long journeys. Though the front seats are supportive, they are not large, so larger occupants may be a bit uncomfortable. Headroom is good all around.

Gaining access to the Renault Laguna cabin is easy for front occupants. The wide door apertures and large doors make this task much easier. Rear occupants of the Laguna will have a more difficult time entering and exiting the cabin. The rear door is smaller but opens just a wide as the front door does, so only the tallest of passengers will have difficulty. The boot is large, but is hidden behind a smaller hatch. Even with a small hatch, access is unrestricted due to the wide aperture and low load lip.

Parking the Laguna is simple. Forward visibility is good but could be better. Rearward visibility is better, but taller passengers will make it difficult to see and judge distances. This is offset by light steering and good maneuverability.

Renault Laguna
The Laguna is geared toward comfort and refinement. The GT205 on the other hand is geared toward delivering a sportier ride. Despite the car’s size the peppier engine delivers a very decent ride.

The Laguna would make a very good family car. It would have no problem filling the role of the primary family vehicle. Isofix anchor points, a decent boot that will easily contain strollers and shopping combine to create a very practical and exciting vehicle. The Laguna also offers good handling and will be easy to navigate through crowded school yards.

This is not an ideal first car. There are better and more affordable cars on the market. Not to mention that it is unlikely that many new drivrs will be attracted to th Laguna’s style.

Renault has had their fair share of reliability and electrical problems in recent years. As a result, the French firm's reputation has suffered. Renault claims that these issues have been addressed, and the Laguna boasts several improvements over past models. Fit and finish is good, while the materials used possess a high quality feel.

 Security and Safety 3.5/5
The Renault Laguna comes equipped with remote central locking, plus a security alarm and an engine immobiliser. Renault's credit card-style key is a unique security feature, while some buyers will opt for a car with the full 'keyless go' package. This will allow drivers to walk up to the car, grab the door handle, get in and press the starter button and you're on your way. No more fumbling for keys late at night.

The Renault Laguna does not skimp on safety features. The standard features include anti lock brakes, twin front and side airbags plus a pair of curtain air bags that run the length of the cabin. Isofix mountings are fitted to the outer rear seats. Dynamic spec cars add auto headlamps, windscreen wipers, and cruise control

 The Finishing Touches 3.5/5
The Laguna’s stadard audio system beats out most of the rivals. The sound quality is good and upgraded models receive CD changers and more powerful outputs. Renault's features convenient remote audio controls. The basic, monochrome sat-nav fitted to the GT205 and optional on other models is somewhat disappointing though.

The Laguna’s cabin is quite impressive. Buyers can opt for a dark, conventional cabin, lighter options do exist and boast a premium feel. Real wood inserts and leather upholstery on upmarket variants give the cabin a very premium feel.
