Renault Espace Car Review
Renault Espace

The Renault Espace appears to be evolving and maturing with distinction and style. Renault created an entirely new market segment with the introduction of its Espace Mk I. It was first introduced in 1984 and stirred things up a bit as the first non-commercial seven seater. The more modern Espaces are still leading the competition in terms of style and sophistication. The designers have made Renault's seven-seater very attractive and appealing. The Espace will be used predominantly by families with children of all ages. Buyers will find it reassuring that the car is well equipped with a generous safety kit. Five crash test stars and a significant amount of airbags will be very appealing to parents and grandparents alike.

The Renault Espace cabin provides more than adequate space to accommodate passengers and luggage. Cabin space is good and so is the level of comfort on offer. Parking sensors would have been a nice addition to the standard level of equipment, but only made the options list.

The Espace comes with a high asking price, and not everyone will be able to afford this car. Buyers who can manage to swing it will not be disappointed. The comfort, style, and practicality that the Espace delivers will be difficult to match.

 Practicality 5/5
Renault Espace
Renault Espace
The Espace will be a very expensive purchase. Fuel economy of course isn’t the best due to the car’s size. Insurance rates are also high for the Espace, and budget oriented buyers should find another purchase. The car should enjoy a high resale value.

The Espace is one of the most spacious and practical vehicles on offer. The car seats seven adults comfortably plus their luggage. The versatility of the seating arrangement means that seats fold to create additional storage space.

The Renault Espace sports a nifty digital speedometer, and the rest of the car’s controls and displays are just as attractive and modern. The car boasts a large soft gear-knob, and various displays that add to the stylish appeal of the cabin.

The Espace provides plenty of passenger comfort. The cabin is extra spacious with good head, leg, and elbow room. Engine and road noise is successfully minimized to create a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere.

The Espace provides excellent accessibility. Access to the cabin is easily obtainable for most passengers. The car’s doors open wide and access is straightforward and won’t pose a problem for most passengers.

The Espace is a large vehicle and drivers must exercise caution while parking. Parking sensors are not fitted standard on the Espace. The car’s elevated drive position helps provide good visibility.

 Life Style 4/5
Renault Espace
Renault Espace
The Espace was not designed for speed or performance, it was designed to deliver space and seating, but the larger engine models provide a good turn of pace. Handling has improved through the years since the introduction of the original Espace.

The Renault Espace has a lot to offer families. The cabin is very spacious and can comfortably seat seven adults. The versatility of the seating arrangement allows seats to be used and stored to provide more cargo space as needed. The cabin provides many useful cubbies to increase the use of space.

This is not a logical first car at all. The Espace is too large and expensive to be practical for most novice drivers. Insurance would also be high and inexperienced drivers may have difficulty navigating the large vehicle down a crowded street or parking.

Renauly has had a problem in the past with some of its electrical features. The company’s image is improving however with some of their latest models. Renault has developed recent models that boast fresh, modern exterior styles that beat out rival brands.

 Security and Safety 4/5
The Espace comes standard with Renault's Anti-Intrusion Device (RAID) and engine immobiliser. There is a security alarm available on the options list and may end up being a wise decision.

The Euro NCAP has given the Espace a five star safety rating. The car comes equipped standard with ABS, EBD, dual front, side and head airbags. The vehicle also comes with ESP, three-point seatbelts all round, ISOFIX anchors and traction control

 The Finishing Touches 3.5/5
The Renault Espace standard audio system does not come equipped with even a basic CD player. All other models gain a six-disc changer and a couple of extra speakers. Standard 'Ceylan' or 'Sam' interior fabric looks stylish and durable. Alcantara and leather are options that appear in higher range models. The plastics used on the dashboard have a nice appearance and seem to be of good quality. Metallic paint is an option on all models. Non-metallic colours are available in Navy Blue and Glacier White.
