Nissan Patrol Car Review
|
Nissan Patrol
The Nissan Patrol is a true off-roader. This extremely large off-roader has been designed to conquer almost any terrain no matter how challenging.
The Nissan Patrol has been around for quite some time. This vehicle was not designed for comfort it is a very capable and competent 4X4 and doesn’t make any claims to being soft or comfortable.
There Patrol has some rivals left in this sector, such as the Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Mitsubishi Shogun. They are all large gas guzzling vehicles that are designed to be quite rugged.
The Patrol performs better off-road than on. Its torque is ideal for tromping through the mud or gravel, but on the motorway the 3.0-litre turbo diesel feels out of its element and struggles to deliver a quality ride.
The Nissan Patrol SVE model offers more in the way of refinement and creature comforts. Features such as leather seats and sat-nav are offered with the SVE version. This car is strictly for experienced drivers and requires a good deal of skill to maneuver around town.
The Patrol is not a dainty car but it can be useful for those who frequently find themselves off the road. It handles well in challenging weather conditions.

Nissan Patrol
The Patrol is an expensive purchase, and will be costly to run. The car’s fuel economy is good for a car in this class but will be expensive in daily use. Insurance rates will be fairly high as well. The fact that Nissan’s tend to be very reliable is reassuring.
The Nissan Patrol spacious cabin can seat up to seven comfortably. The two rear seats can be folded to increase boot space and increases cargo carrying capacity significantly.
The Nissan Patrol control’s and dials are easy to use and functional. Everything is laid out in a clear and practical manner. The car also comes with an easy to use sat-nav system. The quality of the controls is very good.
Cabin space is good and the seats are supportive and comfortable. The leather covering the seats gives the cabin a quality feel. The seats are heated and come in handy during cold winter months.
This is a tall vehicle and will require passengers to step up into the vehicle. This could make access difficult for some despite the car’s side steps. The doors open plenty wide enough, but the vehicle’s floors are high and make access even more difficult for the less limber passengers.
Parking the Patrol can be a real challenge. The car’s limited rear visibility can making parking difficult. Rear parking sensors are available as a cost option but are necessary to confidently park the Patrol.

Nissan Patrol
The Patrol’s off-road abilities are excellent. The vehicle successfully handles rough terrain and less than ideal weather conditions without hesitation. Off the road the vehicle does not falter. On the road, the Patrol has a more difficult time delivering a smooth ride. The 3.0-litre diesel engine works too hard and causes significant amounts of body roll. This is a common problem among vehicles in this class and the Patrol is no worse on the road than its rivals.
The Nissan Patrol’s spacious and durable cabin is ideal for family life. The interior will wear well at the hands of children, and the versatile seating arrangement is good for carrying various cargo often associated with an active family. The car’s sheer size gives off the feeling that the vehicle is safe for family transport.
This would not make a good first car. Novice drivers will have a difficult time navigating the Patrol through crowded streets and parking lots. Parking will be difficult for most drivers and extra difficult for new drivers. The car car will also prove to be expensive as far as fuel and insurance costs are concerned.
The Patrol feels like a well made, quality vehicle. Nissan’s reputation for reliability comes through loud and clear with the Patrol. The Patrol may find it difficult to compete with more prestigious name brands though.
Security and Safety
|
|
|
The Nissan Patrol comes standard with an ultrasonic alarm system, an engine immobiliser and remote control central locking with an anti-hijack feature. This seems like a decent level of security for the Patrol since the likelihood of it being stolen is relatively small.
Safety has not been overlooked either. The Nissan Patrol SVE models come with dual front and side airbags, ABS, front seatbelt pretensioners and seven three-point fastening belts. Front side airbags are left off of the base model.

The Finishing Touches
|
|
|
The Nissan Patrol standard audio system includes a four-speaker, two-tweeter system with a CD player. It provides good sound quality but struggles to drown out tyre and wind noise at motorway speeds. Nissan's DVD sat nav system comes standard on the SVE. This is the best satellite navigation system currently available on the market.
The Patrol looks best in black, grey and green. The black leather interior are very complimentary to the vehicle and give it a more quality feel.
