Jaguar XJ Series Car Review
Jaguar XJ Series

The new Jaguar XJ looks a lot like the old XJ, but this one is much nicer to drive and better built. Jaguar decided not to launch something too different in a bid to hold on to existing customers while attempting to appeal to younger buyers with the car's hi-tech offerings. You have to look closely to detect the differences between the old and current Jaguar XJ Series. There's still no mistaking the XJ for anything else on the road with its unique and classy exterior design. This car was designed to appeal to younger buyers and buyers who would automatically go for something German and sporty. Jag has been trying to shed its old more conservative image and has focused its efforts on making the new XJ faster and more fun to drive. Similar to Audi and its A8, the XJ is made out of aluminium not steel. The advantages include a more lightweight vehicle, a stronger frame, and a more natural feeling driving experience. The Jaguar XJ Series drives as well slow as it does fast. The XJ provides an excellent driving experience indeed. The car delivers awesome technology in the form of a touch screen sat-nav system, a high-spec entertainment system, and an adaptive air suspension system. Jaguar used a small capacity petrol V6 in the XJ. This motor is more than adequate despite its modest output. All cars come with a smooth shifting six-speed auto gearbox, while the driver enjoys electrically adjustable pedals.

 Practicality 4/5
Jaguar XJ Series
Jaguar XJ Series
The XJ is an expensive car to purchase. The V8 engine option does not enjoy very good fuel economy, while the V6 is extremely economical. The car is reliable and should only require routine servicing.

The cabin in the Jaguar XJ has been enlarged and now there is more passenger space available. This is especially important for rear passengers. The boot is a good size although maybe a tad bit smaller than some important competitors. The centre storage console comes in handy as well.

The Jaguar XJ Series controls are logically placed and practical. There aren’t too many complex controls or dials to operate. There is an optional sat-nav system available that is very impressive.

The XJ’s excellent air suspension system is largely responsible for the smooth ride the XJ delivers. The car’s front seats are large and adjustable for passenger comfort. Rear passengers have more legroom than before and will be more comfortable even on longer rides.

Access to the Jaguar XJ Series front is very good and passengers should have little problem accessing the front seats. Rear passengers will also have little difficulty accessing the cabin thanks to the increase in passenger space especially in the rear. The boot is easily accessible as well and the lid can be released remotely or directly.

The XJ is a large car to park. Thank goodness parking sensors come as part of the car’s standard package. Parking is made fairly easy with the car’s light power steering.

Jaguar XJ Series
Jaguar XJ Series
The Jaguar XJ Series provides a very decent driving experience thanks to the car’s air suspension, engine options, and the car’s power steering. The car is fast and exciting to drive.

The Jaguar XJ could easily accommodate a family. The question is if the buyer is willing to pay so much for a car that was not built to withstand the rigors of family life. Children may not mix well with the leather upholstery. Also, boot space is limited for carrying items frequently associated with families.

This would not make a good first car. Even if you could afford it a novice driver mey have difficulty handling and controling the vehicle. The car may also provide too much power for a newly licensed driver.

Jaguar has a strong image in the executive sector. It is starting to shed its past image woes and is being seen more and more for its recent successes. The company is targeting younger buyers and increasing its marketability.

 Security and Safety 4/5
The Jaguar XJ Series distinctive style stand-out and as such Jag has included a comprehensive immobiliser system, including an interior motion sensor, plus remote central locking with delayed locking.

Jaguar has not skimped in safety department. The car comes with twin front, side along with curtain airbags plus ABS, brake assist and traction control. Rear seats are also Isofix-equipped for child seats.

 The Finishing Touches 4/5
The Jaguar XJ Series comes equipped with a standard stereo unit that includes a radio, CD and cassette player. Most models receive a boot-mounted CD changer. Basic functions can be controlled via steering wheel-mounted buttons. Other cost options are available such as the 'Premium' system, which comprises a more powerful amplifier and 12 speakers. Other options include a TV tuner or DVD player plus rear headrest-mounted screens and a sat-nav system.- all operated from Jaguar's easy to use colour touch screen display.

There are many exterior and interior colours available. Most of them are very flattering and it would be almost impossible to make a bad choice. The interior looks nice in a lighter grey, but the black looks nice and doesn’t look as dirty after prolonged use.
