Car Review

Hyundai Amica

The little Hyundai Amica would make an excellent first car or round town car. It performs well on city streets and provides exceptional value for the money. One of the only negatives about the Amica is its lack of safety features which can be worrisome with a car this size.

Hyundai Amica Car Review Summary

Hyundai Amica

The Hyundai Amica has undergone some major changes. The car is now bigger, more powerful, more focused on comfort, and looks and drives much better than its predecessor.

The Amica is a city car that like so many others has been enlarged for functionality. The car is still small enough to maneuver the busiest city streets with ease and slide into even the smallest of parking spaces. The difference is that now the car is more practical than ever.

Four average sized adults can comfortably fit into the Amica’s cabin. Head and legroom for front and rear passengers is adequate and most passengers should be fairly comfortable. The boot is very generous for a car this size and can easily accommodate several shopping bags.

Cars this size have a reputation for delivering exceptionally poor performance. The Amica has successfully addressed this issue and has increased its engine size to 1.1-litre giving the little car more speed and power. This increases the driving experience and the cars ability to cope on motorways.

Levels of refinement have also been improved in the Amica. Road and engine noise have successfully been kept to a minimal even at higher speeds. This has helped to increase the level of cabin comfort considerably

The Amica is a low cost purchase, and when you factor in the company’s five year warranty it is difficult for buyers in this sector of the market not to give the Amica some serious consideration. Fuel economy is good and insurance rates are also low.

The Hyundai Amica is a city car, but it still manages to deliver a very decent amount of space. Passengers have adequate head and legroom and boot space is good as well. The cabin also has several storage spaces for keeping up with miscellaneous items.

The Amica is not an elaborate car equipped with complex systems and the car’s fascia reflects the car’s simplicity. The cabin controls and dials are logically placed and large enough to operate easily. The car’s displays are also large and easy to read. The system is very basic and quite functional and delivers no more than what is needed and no less.

The Hyundai Amica is spacious enough to seat four adults in reasonable comfort. The seats are large and supportive, and the cabin does a good job of filtering out noise. Comfort levels for the Amica are definitely high for a city car.

This is a super simple car to park, its small size, light steering, and good all around visibility making parking a breeze.

The Amica delivers a smooth ride during normal driving conditions, but taking corners at speed can cause the car to lean. The car’s 1.1-litre engine performs fine and provides adequate power; it does tend to get a little noisy when driven hard.

The Hyundai Amica is not a family vehicle. It is spacious for a city car and could easily accommodate a small family except that storage space is limited and couldn’t accommodate family related items very easily, and access to the rear seats would prove cumbersome when trying to load and unload small children.

The Hyundai Amica would make an exceptional first car. It is inexpensive to purchase and has low running costs and a five year warranty. It provides good fuel economy and low insurance rates. The car is easy to handle and the perfect size for a newly licensed driver.

Hyundai has always been seen as a budget car manufacturer who builds reliable and durable cars providing good value for money. The company has recently raised the bar and has kept the core values it has always had and decided to add quality and style to that list. Though initial progress was slow, the company’s popularity is growing among the more style conscientious crowd.

Security and Safety

Rating: 3/5

The Amica is not likely to be high on a thieves list of priorities, but it still comes equipped with a standard remote central locking device, and an engine immobilizer.

The Hyundai Amica only comes with a driver’s side airbag. This may increase safety concerns for some buyers. The car has all the usual safety features such as ABS, EBD, and child-proof locks on rear doors.

The Finishing Touches

Rating: 3/5

The Hyundai Amica comes equipped with a standard stereo/CD unit. The sound quality is good and the system is easily accessible for the driver.

The Amica’s exterior looks more flattering in bright colours. The car’s interior is comprised mostly of greys and is rather dull. Cabin materials have been made durable and functional rather than stylish or trendy.
