Car Review

Honda Fr-V

Honda, despite the company’s late start in the people carrying business has taken all of the positive designs and innovations of this class and has combined them in a vehicle while minimizing MPV’s less desirable traits and has created the Honda FR-V. It’s not as flashy as some of the cars in this sector but it is more durable and dependable and drives more like a car than other competitors.

Honda FR-V Car Review Summary

Honda FR-V

Honda’s FR-V boasts seating for six and an above average build quality. The FR-V drives more like a car than many of it competitors. Honda has attempted to master the winning combination of designing a people carrier that is large and practical enough to serve its purpose, and yet still drive like a car and deliver a decent ride.

Honda FR-V delivers exceptional levels of space while offering the driver a car-like ride. The car’s two rows of seats each provide three seats. The centre seats slide and the rear seats fold flat ensuring adequate room and versatility.

Honda’s past efforts at making desirable people carriers has not always been successful. It appears that the Honda FR-V could turn things around for Honda in this sector of the market. Customer loyalty will play a big role in the FR-V’s success.

Competitors will want to keep an eye on the FR-V. With Honda’s indisputable reputation for reliability and focus on customer satisfaction coupled with the car’s actual abilities competitors will have a really tough time keeping up with the FR-V.

The FR-V sports a 1.7-litre petrol engine and even though the engine is adequate, it’s not much more. It does not deliver a sporty powerful ride. The design is nice and helps to conceal the car’s people carrying capabilities.

The FR-V is a fairly expensive car to purchase, but take into consideration the cars equipment level and capabilities and the car actually offers very good value for the money. Given the reliable nature of Honda servicing and maintenance should be routine.

The Honda FR-V has adequate cabin space to accommodate six average sized adults with relative ease. There are several cubby holes dotting the cabin and seats rearrange and lay flat to provide even more cargo space. Center seats can slide forward and backward as needed.

The FR-V controls and dials are large enough that they can be used with little difficulty. Displays are easy to read and functional. There are several cost options available such as a sat-nav system. The car’s basic functions are duplicated on the steering wheel.

The Honda FR-V delivers a firm yet comfortable ride. Seats are comfortable and the driving position should comfortably accommodate most drivers.

Access into the FR-V is good and legroom doesn’t pose much of a problem either. Thanks mainly to the car’s large doors. Drivers must remember to park with adequate space to provide for the large non-sliding doors.

Parking the Honda FR-V car is comparative to parking a conventional hatchback. The car handles and maneuvers well making parking much easier. Visibility can be limited in the rear and parking sensors are probably a good investment.

The FR-V isn’t your average people carrier it offers so much more. It provides a good ride and delivers exceptional drive quality. Steering is direct and the FR-V absorbs bumps and road imperfections very well. The driving position isn’t as high as other vehicles in its class and the huge windscreen pillars limit visibility somewhat.

The Honda FR-V would be an ideal family car. It provides seating for six and the cars interior is durable and rugged yet stylish. It has great head and legroom like most MPV’s but it drives and maneuvers like a car. The seating arrangements are creative and versatile, and there are entertainment options available designed to keep the kids busy on longer trips.

This is not likely to be the car of choice for first time drivers. If a new driver were to purchase the FR-V it would handle well and not pose any major problems. The car is easy to drive and all the controls are easy to find and figure out. It is an easy car to maneuver and park despite its large size.

Honda is somewhat famous for producing reliable and durable cars. They have appealed mostly in the past to buyers who were mature, retired or who wanted a no frills but reliable vehicle. This image is beginning to change thanks to several new models that boast creativity and style that is up there with the competition. Honda’s philosophy concerning reliability and durability remains the same, they have just added some much needed style and flair to their more recent vehicles.

Security and Safety

The FR-V is a nice vehicle but probably not one that a car thief would be interested in. Despite this fact, Honda has equipped the vehicle with remote central locking and an engine immobilizer. Due to the large windows the car is more likely to fall victim to smash and grab thievery.

The Honda FR-V is equipped with twin front, side and curtain airbags. It also includes anti-lock brakes and an EBD system. Outside seats are also equipped with Isofix child seating mounts.

The Finishing Touches

Rating: 4/5

The FR-V comes with a stereo/CD player. Sound quality is very good. There are many options available from the options list including a CD multi-changer, a sat-nav system, a DVD entertainment system, and steering-wheel mounted controls.

The exterior of the Honda FR-V looks best in bold colours, darker colours seem to exaggerate the vehicle’s large size. The exterior can be off-set by a brighter interior with a choice of fabrics.
