Ford Kuga
The Ford Kuga is the type of car that will attract drivers of hatchbacks as much as owners of 4x4s – it’s called a crossover vehicle and does exactly what it says on the tin. It crosses over the divide between hatchbacks and four-wheel drive vehicles and has the ability to satisfy the owners of both.
Ford Kuga Car Review Summary
It looks like the bodybuilding big brother of the Ford Focus – and the Kuga is set to become a major player within its own niche market.
Offering the benefits of a hatchback and a 4x4, the Kuga has the qualities necessary to attract buyers from both markets.
In normal conditions the Kuga will only be driven by one axle to save fuel. Many buyers will hardly ever need the four-wheel drive capability that it offers, but bad weather conditions will see them happy for the extra grip of its ‘intelligent all-wheel drive system’ to help them arrive at their destination safely.
The Kuga borrows the chassis components of the Focus but once the engine is fired up it is immediately clear the car is anything like its cousin on the road.
That’s not to say it is anything like a traditional off-roader either as it’s far more stable and a joy to drive either slowly in a muddy field or at pace on a motorway.
Ford is pitching the Kuga as a luxury compact Sports Utility Vehicle at a price that initially looks expensive until the levels of equipment and quality of the build are taken into account.
Practicality
Customers attracted to the showroom may be shocked that even the lowest-priced Kuga seems relatively expensive.
However, it must be remembered that the purchaser is getting a top-specification model as there is no entry-level version of the Kuga so it represents fair value for money.
Running costs impress with a very respectable fuel economy figure and low carbon dioxide emissions. Servicing is reasonably cheap as well while residual values are forecast to be strong.
Inside the Kuga is a spacious, refined five-seater. The driver will find a comfortable position behind the wheel easy to achieve although legroom is a bit tight for six-footers in the back.
There’s a commanding driving position but the driver sits snugly in the seat rather than perched uncomfortably on top of it. The sports seats in the Kuga are generally supportive and comfortable.
At the rear there is an impressive amount of luggage space beneath the hatchback, while the split opening hatch makes loading and unloading easier. The rear seats also fold flat giving greater flexibility should larger loads need to be shifted.
When it comes to parking, the Kuga offers good visibility and the steering is light providing easy manoeuvrability.

Life Style
The Ford Kuga will appeal to male and female buyers attracted by its sense of security and rugged feel.
The look is sharp and clean-cut with the dashboard and centre console making liberal use of brushed aluminium contrasting with the black of the upper dashboard.
Its intelligent key system means the driver only has to touch the exterior door handle to unlock it. Then to start the car just requires a high-mounted central start button to be pushed.
Ford has included features such as brushed aluminium roof rails to create a neat link between the interior and exterior of the car, while the swept back headlamps and twin ridges on the bonnet give the Kuga a look of solidity and strength.
The Kuga is an ideal car for a family meeting the needs of practicality without sacrificing style.

Security and Safety
The Ford Kuga gives the reassurance offered by four-wheel drive as well as a stability control system that helps keep the car on the road when conditions get tricky. If an accident is unavoidable then there are six airbags and the steering wheel has been designed to move sideways away from the driver in the event of a head-on smash.
A sophisticated alarm is fitted as well as an immobiliser to help thwart the criminal element.
The Finishing Touches
All Ford Kuga’s get alloy wheel, air-conditioning, keyless start, a socket for an i-Pod. The Titanium adds automatic lights and wipers, tinted glass, part-leather trim, cruise control and a satnav system that provides ample evidence of how hard Ford worked to make their electronics easy to use.
