Review Summary
The BMW X5 is an expensive purchase, but the rugged SUV boasts good looks and excellent performance as well. The firm has managed to correct many of the styling problems that were seen in the 5 and 7 Series models. BMW X5 Car Review
BMW X5

BMW’s X5 is taller and heavier than most estate cars and drives well. Rival brands are striving to take customers away from the X5 with little success. The X5 is powerful and well equipped. BMW’s XDrive system allows the vehicle to conquer even the roughest terrain with confidence.

The BMW X5 offers buyers an impressive selection of motors and transmission to choose from. The diesel engine is a definite favorite. The X5 handles much better than most other 4X4’s, due to its impressive quality build. However, the X5 costs more than most of its competitors too.

The X5’s commanding driving position and superb handling help make it a great driving experience. The BMW X5 is a 4X4, but it drives and feels sportier. The vehicle is equipped with a split tailgate that allows easier access to the rear storage compartment making it both practical and convenient.

The X5’s long waiting list of buyers is testament to buyer’s trust in the BMW brand as well as to the vehicles capabilities and potential. BMW has improved upon an already great vehicle, and competitors are finding it difficult to compete.

BMW X5
The BMW X5 is a costly car to buy, and the options that are offered only raise the price even higher. The X5 is also a costly car to run, it is not economical on fuel, and insurance is higher than on most cars. On the other hand, the X5 has a higher resale value than any of its competitors.

BMW's X5 split tailgate might limit access for some to the lower section of the boot. The X5’s rear seats fold down to create more carrying space for larger cargo. The car’s center console serves as oddment storage.

The controls are well thought out and well placed in the cabin of the X5. BMW didn’t over complicate things and the driver can access and use everything comfortably. Even the vehicle’s comprehensive trip computer is user friendly. The no hassle controls makes the X5 a pleasant driving experience.

The BMW X5 delivers a rough ride at times. The cabin however, is quite comfortable with supportive seats and a multitude of seating positions.

Gaining access to the vehicle is easy with wide opening doors and plenty of legroom and headroom. Accessing items in the boot can be a little more difficult. The deep boot may pose some problems especially for some shorter people who will have difficulty reaching some items.

The X5 is fairly easy to park, despite its large size. The driver sits up high and has good visibility, and the large exterior mirrors provide a clear exterior view. The X5 also comes standard with parking sensors.

 Life Style 4/5
BMW X5
BMW X5
The BMW X5 looks like an SUV, but it drives like a much sportier vehicle. While all of the engine options are high performers, the diesel engine steals the show. The V8 engine has a nice sound, but is way less fuel efficient.

The X5 would make an excellent family vehicle for families who could afford to fuel it. The vehicles large size and 4-wheel drive capabilities makes it a top choice for families. The BMW X5 is practical and spacious for a family vehicle and would suit the rigors of family life well.

This would not be a great first car. It comes with a hefty price tag, a long waiting list, and it’s a gas hog. Even if a new driver could afford it, the car is physically too big to be ideal for an inexperienced driver, not to mention that the X5 is a fairly powerful vehicle.

According to the long waiting list for the X5 it must have a good image among prospective buyers. BMW has become synonymous with quality and have developed a loyal following through the years. The X5 is a quality vehicle that sports a great image and a high-class brand name.

 Security and Safety 3.5/5
The BMW X5 would be a hot target for car theft, that’s why they come equipped with a standard Thatcham-approved Category One Alarm and an immobilizer system. Deadlocking and a remote central locking device are also standard for the BMW X5. To limit access further, the driver’s door is the only door fitted with a key access. A tracking device is offered as an optional upgrade.

The X5 comes with standard with twin front airbags, side and curtain airbags and optional rear side airbags. The car has a strong chassis, the usual stability aids, BMW’s XDrive system, and a Hill Decent Control that all combine to enhance the vehicle’s safety.

 The Finishing Touches 3.5/5
The BMW X5 comes with only a basic stereo system. The system has excellent sound quality, but the buyer will probably want to add on a couple of upgrades. Some of the options available include a six-disc CD changer, sat-nav, TV receiver, and a telephone.

The BMW X5 looks best in silver, and is not very flattering in other light colors. Silver also improves the car’s resale value. Six-cylinder models come with fabric upholstery while V8’s come with leather as a standard.
