BMW 1 Series Car Review Summary
BMW 1 Series
The BMW 1 Series is a premium compact hatchback. Its good-looking profile draws attention to its powerful looking rear wheels. Not everyone is sold on the exterior design of the 1 Series, but upon second glance it really is a nice looking vehicle.
Space inside the cabin has been sacrificed to accommodate a sizeable transmission tunnel. Front seat passengers have plenty of room and should be quite comfortable, but rear passengers are much more limited, and unfortunately boot space is also limited.
The BMW 1 Series cabin design is of good build quality but not up to BMW’s usual high standards. Some of the fixtures seem cheap and not so well made. Other than the few items that could have been of better quality, the cabin has a tasteful over all appearance.
The car delivers superb performance when it comes to steering, acceleration and braking, giving the car a truly sporty feel. It is the best-driving car in its class and has an excellent selection of engines. The 1 Series is a good vehicle for driving around town or for hitting the open-road. With so much to offer, the 1 Series should do very well in the premium hatchback sector.
Practicality
A BMW 1 Series will cost more than most of its competitors, but through the years BMW has developed a loyal following that are willing to pay a little extra for the honor of sporting the BMW badge. The car’s residual values should remain high, and maintenance should be fairly routine, but repairs can be costly. The car’s engine(s) are economical and reliable.
The BMW 1 Series is not a spacious car. The cars large transmission tunnel sacrificed cabin space in return for a superior driving experience. Buyers who prefer space should opt for a more spacious front wheel drive vehicle.
The BMW 1 Series controls and dials are very striking and have been efficiently and practically placed. The controls are slightly angled toward the driver to provide a clear view. The angle is so slight that most passengers won’t even notice. The car’s starter button was borrowed from the Z8 super-convertible.
Front seat passengers should have an adequate amount of room, but rear passenger space is limited. Headroom is good in the rear but legroom is less than sufficient. The car comes standard with three rear seatbelts but it is not likely that three people will fit in the back.
The BMW 1 Series is a five door car making access and egress a simple process. Front access is a bit easier than rear access due to the unique shape of the rear doors. Boot access is adequate but the boot lip is high and narrow.
Parking the 1 Series can be challenging due to limited rear visibility, it is highly recommended that rear parking sensors be selected from the list of options. Front sensors won’t be necessary though because forward visibility is excellent. Other than rear visibility, the 1 Series is a fairly simple car to park.

Life Style
The BMW 1 Series is a rear-wheel drive front engine car that has terrific driver appeal. All of the engine options perform well, but of course the more powerful engines provide a more satisfying driving experience. The car’s six speed gear box makes it even more fun to drive.
The 1 Series was not designed to accommodate families. It has limited rear seating capacity and a moderately sized boot that is not meant to contain many packages. The car does not come standard with Isofix child seat mountings, although they are on the options list.
This is one BMW that might make a really good first car. If the new driver could afford it, it provides great handling, it’s small, and it’s fun to drive too. The car has power but not so much power that a new driver would have difficulty controlling the car.
The 1 Series sports a high-class look with most of the niceties of its more expensive predecessors. The 1 is quickly becoming a serious competitor in the C-segment of the car market. Buyers are taking notice of the car’s exterior style, excellent interior cabin design, and truly superior engine performance.

Security and Safety
Like all BMW’s the 1 Series will be an attractive car and will need a competent security system. The 1 comes equipped with a Thatcham Category One security alarm, with the car’s VIN number visible from the outside.
The BMW 1 Series was created with safety in mind. Standard safety features include ABS, automatic stability controls, and other safety devices that enhance steering, braking and cornering. There are six standard airbags provided, and Isofix child seat mountings for additional safety. Run-flat tyres come standard and give the driver a little extra peace of mind.
The Finishing Touches
The standard issue stereo on the BMW 1 Series comes complete with a CD player and six speakers. An attractive upgrade is offered with four broadband speakers and two bass speakers. There are many upgrades on the options list, such as a Bluetooth telephone connector, or a six disc CD changer with surround sound. Other options include BMW’s iDrive system or sat-nav system.
BMW 1 Series trims consist of blacks and dark greys, and compliment the cabins dark interior design. The car’s exterior design is most flattering in dark colours, such as; blues, greys, and black.
