Alfa Romeo 159 Car Reviews

Alfa Romeo’s 159 has all of the familiar styling traits that have come to be expected from an Alfa. It has a long stylish front-end, short rear end, and the ever-present Alfa Romeo shaped grille. The elegant 159 grabs your attention, and has everyone in the industry taking notice. This car is an improvement on the smaller 156, which it replaced, and boasts better performance, better quality workmanship and more cabin space.

Alfa Romeo 159 Overview

Model Rating: 3.5
Alfa styling
Well priced
Nice interior
Poor resale values
Limited space
Diesel engines can be noisy

Alfa Romeo has never been short of style, and has always come up with a beautiful, stylish end product. They do however; have a reputation for some performance and reliability issues that have given their competitors the edge in the past. The 159 has brought Alfa back to the cutting edge. The 159’s quality levels have been compared to that of Audi, surpassing other leading competitors. This executive car certainly puts the company back on the radar, not just as a contender but as a leading competitor.

The Alfa 159 provides a classy, reliable vehicle, with fantastic safety features at an affordable price. Looking at other medium sized executive vehicles, the 159 provides better value for money, however, resale value will be considerably less, as Alfa’s tend not to hold their value as well as their competitors.

Available as either a saloon or sportwagon (estate) model, there is plenty of room in the cabin. Front passengers have plenty of leg and headroom, as do passengers in the rear, even if the space provided isn’t the best in the class. Again, the boot is an acceptable size, if not the best in the class, and the Sportwagon offers addition boot space if needed.

Background

The 159 was introduced in 2005 as a replacement for the smaller 156, and shared its platform with both the Brera and Spider. The Sportwagon variant debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 2006 before a four-wheel drive diesel model was released in 2007.

The 159 has made a number of film appearances since its release, including the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, Angels and Demons and Johnny English Reborn.

Summary

The 159 is a medium sized executive car that offers a cheaper alternative to its German counterparts, without compromising on style and quality.  Its distinctive design will ensure recognition wherever it is driven.
